According to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc., estimated ticket sales at North American theaters puts Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Wedding Crashers way far ahead of Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds. I wonder if this is because the movie is simply not as good as everyone expected it to be or if this is some sort of backlash because of Cruise's 'postpartum' comments. I am anxious to see what the final figures will bring Monday, July 25. I did see Wedding Crashers this past week and for the most part, it was very funny. I did not find the 'crotch crabbing' scene necessary or amusing. I see that much talked about Hustle & Flow is just below War of the Worlds and Batman Begins is even lower. I guess none of this is too bad since all of these movies are still in the top 10.
1. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, $28.3 million.
2. Wedding Crashers, $26.2 million.
3. Fantastic Four, $12.3 million.
4. The Island, $12.1 million.
5. The Bad News Bears, $11.5 million.
6. War of the Worlds, $8.8 million.
7. Hustle & Flow, $8.1 million.
8. The Devil's Rejects, $7 million.
9. Batman Begins, $4.7 million.
10. March of the Penguins, $4.3 million
