Giving Back by Volunteering

-- Click for more Information to popup     You all know that I volunteer cuz I enjoy it and that I belive that I have an obligation to give-back because I have been so lucky to have family, decent health and good friends. The coordinator of volunteers at Jewish Family Service has asked me to be on their volunteer commitee and I agreed to do this. I hope I can add valuable input. Everyone knows that I spend time with "my senior." I started doing this because I hoped that someone would do the same for my mom if necessary. Fortunately, she had her own volunteer group, her children, her grands and her church members. I had never thought of what I do as really important--these days I am seeing that it is.

If anyone is interested in volunteering th JFS see their purpose, etc. at www.jfs-metronj.org  or if you are not in the area and looking for volunteering opportunities go to Volunteer Match it hundreds of ops through-out the USA. http://www.volunteermatch.org/

Happy Halloweeen and Other Stuff

Cartoon pumpkinBoo! Happy Halloween everyone. concept: Halloween/witch on a broom

Happy birthday to my dad. I know that he is is still watching over me :-)

I am quite sure that I saw kids dressed up for Halloween yesterday?? This thing about Halloween and "sex offender must not open door" thing is so frightening. I think that I would not allow my child to go out alone. It is a brand new world. It was so different when I was a child.

This morning trans fat remains in the news. I wonder what this will do to fast food biz? I am thinking that if they stop super-sizing everything, the bad fat level will automatically be reduced. The staffers are instructed to ask if you want "blah, blah" with that or to tell you that you can get a larger size for a few cents more. While at a mall, I bought a cup of coffee but needed a quiet place to sit, so decided to buy a sweet roll and sit in that area. The roll was freshly baked and heaving with sugary topping. As I prepared to pay I was given a small cup full of the topping. When I said I don't need extra, the young man replied, "This is not extra, it goes with it." Oh my, talk about sugar overdose.

O.K. I continue to be puzzled. Don't get me wrong, I am not unhappy with the fact that my article about being nice when quitting your job has reached over 10 thousand hits, just puzzled.

Fall Back, Spring Ahead

pocket watches and clocks -- Click for more Information to popup      I have turned all of my clocks back, except one, it is "sort of broken", it keeps good time but I can change the time, so I just leave it.  Last week I was telling a friend how I dislike this time change. For a couple weeks I will look at my clock and think it should 'this' time now. Sunday morning I woke up at 5:45a and could not get back to sleep, I decided to check my e-mails and saw that my laptop clock showed 4:45a, oh no, I forgot that I had turned my clocks back an hour. So now what can I do at 4:45 in the morning?

I can remember the one time that I forget to change the time. I zipped up to Willowbrook to get an early start and found that Willowbrook was closed. I thought, what's going on, there are cars here, why can't I get in the buildings. When I figured it out, I decided to just stay and wait for the stores to open. Fortunately, they opened the court area a half-hour or so before the stores opened, and I was able to get coffee (along with the store employees). Very embarrasing, even though no one knew what I had done. Great Daylight Saving Time information http://www.infoplease.com/spot/daylight1.html

I am watching the news and see that Jerry Springer is on. He is being urged to dance (Springer is on "Dancing with the Stars", don't know channel or time, but sure of name [I think]). I am amazed to see that there is a shy side to this man. I would have not thought he had one considering his show, which can surely be counted as #2 in sleaze shows. Maury Povich is definately #1 or maybe his show is just tawdry. So I am looking at Jerry dance now, and he is almost blushing--how sweet.

WOW! South Orange's PAC is open

-- Click for more Information to popup     South Orange's PAC is open http://sopac.vpsland.com/ and it has a movie theater http://www.clearviewcinemas.com/08.05-south_orange.shtml   I am so excited about the first movies they are showing. There are two recent films for the kiddies, but they are showing these oldies for the oldies (smiling), The Godfather, Moonstruck, Raiders Of The Lost Ark  and West Side Story. Does it get any better? I wonder if that will change? Can't wait to see the SOPAC tomorrow. Am hopeful that I can walk inside. I am sure that it is not as grand as the NJPAC, but few local venues are. Yah NJPAC!

I am ashamed to say that I have not visited East Orange's new movie theater. Sadly, both  So Or. and E. Or. have evening shows, no early views (deep sigh).

What Flavor Margarita Are You?

-- Click for more Information to popup      What Flavor Margarita Are You?
http://www.blogthings.com/whatflavormargaritaareyouquiz/

Oddly, this does seem to be me in other folks eyes :) LOL

***You Are a Strawberry Margarita***

You're so sweet it's a little overwhelming, and people are a little afraid of corrupting you... It's a little difficult to imagine you with a margarita.  And you're truly a different person after you've kicked back a couple!

Give this a try--it's fun.

Away Far Too Long

clipbaord      It's been a while since I have been here. I have been putting my thoughts on paper with plans to transfer them here. Of course I have not done that.

I found a blog page that I really enjoy  http://bagelinharlem.blogspot.com/ I guess there could be a problem or a bit of flaming here, but I have not seen any.

My EO Friends of the East Orange Library meeting last week was a thumbs-up. The book sale did wonderfully well, 2K+. Also, the library is getting a small cafe type thingie for the first level. That's exciting--hopefully it won't turn into a pig sty. My fingers are crossed. I went to the BellaOnline forum with my concerns, apparently I need not worry. Everyone seems to love the idea. Most of the poster's have cafe's in their libraries or wish they had.  Our auction (silent and live) will take place Sat. Nov 18 at the library from 7p to 11p. Otis Livingston sports anchor for the "Today" show will be the guest celebrity auctioneer. I have donated very nice pieces of jewelry.  Looking forward to the auction.

When I last saw my senior, she was in an ugly state, nothing pleased her, but at her age she can be forgiven. Still it was a "buy a bottle of wine, drink a bottle of wine" evening. No, Bloggie, I did not drink wine (LOL) A few days ago I did receive a very disturbing telephone call from a family member concerning her, but I think I handled it very well. However, this is something that I will report to my agency. I always have to remember that she is my client, not just a friend. Volunteering is not always fun (deep sigh).

I found a check in my mail box this week end--it's a nice feeling to be paid, however, small the check, for doing something you so enjoy. Just hoping my biz mail box is holding the same.

O.K. I am getting out of here. I am sitting near a window and the sun comes in very full, I just realized that I am sweating, I mean 'glowing' (LOL). I touched the radiator and it is on. Oh well, I guess I should not complain.

Saturday A Good Day

Cartoon faces -- Click for more Information to popup     Despite the ugly news that yet another member of Congress has resigned because of bad and illegal behavior Saturday was good--a great fall day.

Went to an art class at the Newark Musuem with a friend. As before, attendees picked their "learn to do" crafts from a bag. We both picked beading. Our teacher taught something called "Peyote" beading. The name fascinated me and when I had a chance to ask her if it was a Indian type beading, she said that it was. I confess that I did so poorly that I removed all of my beads from the string and returned them to their little jars. I figured she has to pay for those beads and there was no way I was going to keep what I was making, so I gave them back to her. :-)

I was reminded of my mom, a very talented woman who could make a dress without a pattern, once made a paper basket in a senor citizens art class. It was quite possibly the worst thing I had ever seen, we could not stop laughing. Well, Bloggie, my beading project was worse than that. LOL. My friend did much better than I. Peyote beading when done well is quite beautiful. I do plan to try again here at home, I already have a vision of what I would like to make. I am sure that I have seed beads around somewhere. I don't like working with these beads because even the largest is still small.Hence, the reason I still have them (smiling)

I fell asleep sooo early yesterday, I missed my Brit-coms. They start at 8p, how could I have fallen asleep that early??. The other side of that is I woke up at 3am and could not get back to sleep. So I watched Antiques Roadshow and an episode of  Inspector Lynley. I had missed this one.  I think Havers would make an excellent "Eve" for J.D. Robb's "Death" series. I would love to see it on the big screen.
