No More Excuses :-(

Well, I picked up the second arm of my Watkins campaign paperwork today. I no longer have any excuses not to get moving on this. I am already late with the Spring mailing--old catalogs have old prices. Eeek!  I have some really great recipe specialty paper, but can't think of what recipe to give. Whine--whining?? You bet! I am thinking maybe my 7-Up cake recipe, but for some reason, this is not flying.  This has to get out by the second week in March. http://www.watkinsonline.com/ryanes

Oh, procrastination is such a terrible thing.

Sharing Pleasant News

Business: Man with book -- Click for more Information to popupI am sharing photos of the Jazz and Auction that took place at the East Orange Library recently. http://www.soti.com/htm/cityonthemove/index.html  Don't recall if I have done that already. If I have it does not hurt to do it again. (smiling).

When opening my e-mails this morning I found one from a former editor at Bellaonline. She is requesting use of one of my recipes for her new cookbook. Of course I will say yes. If this comes to fruition, it will be so cool.

I picked up my Watkins brochures yesterday--they are so nice, I feel like doing the Snoopy dance. Also, I received a telephone call that the catalogs I sent out did have postage, what a relief; I'm wiping my brow.

Sad News for Me

I am so sad to learn that Teresa Marsico died in 2005. That was the same year I retired from UMDNJ. Teresa was a Nurse Midwive at the university. She founded the Nurse Midwivery program there. Before I met Teresa I thought that nurse-midwivery was something practiced in "the olden days."

My goodness, she was such a lovely and caring person. I will remember her with great fondness and respect.

It is hard to dismiss the "There are no coincidents"(sp??) theory when something like this happens. I just joined the NJBiz feed this morning. The Marscio notice is was jus published today. If  this had not happened I never would have known about Teresa.

Here is the short article in full.

Founder Leaves Funds to Midwifery Program
The founder of the nurse midwifery program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) has left a $250,000 scholarship fund for midwifery students. Teresa Marsico, a past president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, was dedicated to caring for women and babies, especially those who were medically underserved and financially disadvantaged, university executives said. The Manasquan resident bequeathed funds to the Foundation of UMDNJ. The resulting Teresa Marsico Endowed Scholarship fund will distribute annual scholarships to nurse midwifery students at UMDNJ. In 1975, Marsico founded the program at the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions, where she was named professor emeritus. It has transitioned from a one-year certificate program to a Master of Science and Nursing program that will educate students in both midwifery and women's health. - Scott Goldstein

February's Civic Meetings and Challenges

business meeting -- Click for more Information to popup    This month is turning out to be one of civic challenges. I attended the East Orange Historical Society meeting yesterday and walked out Chair of the Bylaws Committee. This time I just said yes--it seemed best.  This will be a challenging couple of years, the EOHS and Friendss of EOPL are both 2 year terms. I guess this shows that I am meant to give back whenever and however possible. Truthfully, I am willing to take any post as long as it is not taking minutes.

Here's hoping my scanner works :-(

An Artful Weekend

-- Click for more Information to popupA good weekend. Not productive, but very good.

The Newark Musuem had another Adult Member Morning. These mornings are so popular. I signed up late and had to take the 8:30a early morning art class. Of course that was the one morning I wanted to sleep in, something I seldom crave. The ratio of men and women is 97% women, 3% men. Maybe less if you count the man that walked into the class I drew, Japanese brush art; he indicated that he would hang up his coat and return to class, but did not. When I walked out to get juice he was getting directions to the Newark library.

I'm pleased with efforts :-) I think I will buy a couple of frames. These paintings, 'water' and 'bamboo trees', are far superior to my seed bead fiasco, which turned out to be a joke-the little buggers hid under my fingernails :-(

The Friends of the East Orange Library

concept: the printed word on a pedestal -- Click for more Information to popup    This has been a busy and chilly week. Now, it's really official, I am the new vice chair? for The Friends of the East Orange Library, I went to the library to put my John Hancock on documents, etc. I also renewed my Friends membership at the same time.

I have to admit that I think that this library is the best in the area. Which reminds me that I have to stop by today.

Anna Nicole Smith

-- Click for more Information to popupI just heard a news bulletin that Anna Nicole Smith has died. For some reason, I am feeling so sad, which surprises me because, when she was shown on just about every channel during news hour a few months ago, she was always crying, I felt badly about her son dying and knew that she was grieving, but for some reason her tears, close-ups and pitiful whining (Can I say that now that she is gone?) just struck a nerve. Oddly, when I heard the news that she had died, I started to cry, it was in that instant that I realized maybe I thought she should have been stronger. After listening to information about her background and watching bits from her marrying the old man trial, I realize that she was as strong as she could be. How sad is that?  I don't think she loved herself.

I remember her for the Guess Jean commercials and probably have a cliping in one of her in my Marilyn Monroe books. I hope that she did have some happiness in her life. Whenever I saw Smith, I was always reminded of a book I read a long time ago, "I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can".

Still not sure why this is bothering me so much.
